9 Days Untamed Tanzania Safari

This Untamed Tanzania Safari takes you to the true “off the beaten path” experiences in Tanzania's wilderness. This tour will give you time in two untouched parks—if you hate crowds and want to take in areas with little disturbance, then this safari is for you. Enjoy the big game in Katavi National Park and top it up with primates as you hike in Mahale Mountains National Park.

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania, for your untamed Tanzania safari. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to your lodge. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the local markets in Arusha town and stop at a local restaurant for a Tanzanian dish.

Day 2: Transfer to Katavi National Park

You will be transferred for an early morning flight to Katavi National Park, located in the remote western part of Tanzania. You will then be picked up from the airstrip to start your adventure.

Day 3 & 4: Explore Katavi National Park

Explore this park on both game drives and walking safaris to deep, unreached areas. The short, guided nature walk with a passionate, knowledgeable guide will leave you in awe of nature. Enjoy morning game drives while viewing abundant wildlife and amazing landscapes. In the rainy season, you can get good views of crocodiles and hippos along Lake Chada and Lake Katavi. Spend the evening watching the sunset as you sip on your favorite drink.

Day 5: Transfer to Mahale Mountains National Park

Today you will transfer to Mahale Mountains National Park on a scheduled flight. This beautiful park is home to chimpanzees.

Day 6 & 7: Primate Tracking in Mahale Mountains

You will have daily treks in search of primates with guided trackers. You will be divided into groups of six and hike different trails. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you are allowed one hour in their presence as they play, eat, and groom each other. Look out for yellow baboons, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and vervet monkeys. Enjoy an evening cruise on the lake with sundowners or fishing, depending on your interests.

Day 8: Transfer to Arusha – Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Arusha airport. You will then proceed to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight.
